William Van Kirk, 98

William C. Van Kirk, Jr., age 98, passed away at Creekside Inn in Coeur d’Alene, on Jan. 20, 2013.

William was born in Bruno, Minn., on Jan. 14, 1915, to William C. Van Kirk, Sr., and Alice May (Lester).

He was raised in Coeur d’Alene and in 1934 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. In 1957, he retired from the Navy submarine group with a rank of Lt. Sr. Grade. William received the Navy and Marine Corps medal for bravery.

William married Nellie May Jobes on June 6, 1966.

He is survived by his two daughters: Doryne Rogstad and Janice Lampros; grandchildren Kim and wife Marjean Rogstad, Tim Rogstad, and Cynthia Roth; great grandchildren Cortney, Drew, and Casey.

William is preceded in death by parents, wife Nellie May in 1989, four brothers and two sisters.

At his request no services will be held English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of the arrangements.
