Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson was added to the NFC roster for the Pro Bowl after Atlanta's Matt Ryan withdrew due to an injury.
Wilson was added to the team on Monday. He will be the sixth Seahawks player in the game, joining offensive linemen Max Unger and Russell Okung, running back Marshawn Lynch, safety Earl Thomas and kick returner Leon Washington.
Wilson threw for 3,118 yards and tied the NFL rookie record with 26 passing touchdowns in the regular season. His finest performance of the year came in Seattle's NFC playoff loss at Atlanta where Wilson threw for 385 yards and two touchdowns in the 30-28 loss.
Wilson was originally voted a third alternate for the NFC.
Ryan was injured in Sunday's NFC championship game loss to San Francisco.
- Two Miami assistant coaches have been told they will be charged with "unethical conduct" when the NCAA presents the Hurricanes' athletic department with its notice of allegations, said two people familiar with the situation.
The people spoke to The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because neither the NCAA or Miami have announced the contents of the long-awaited letter, which the Hurricanes may receive at any time.
- Community residents in State college, Pa., have scheduled a vigil today to remember former Penn State coach Joe Paterno a year after his death.
A family spokesman says the family won't be involved and intends to remain in privacy. Paterno died of lung cancer on Jan. 22, 2012, at age 85, two months after being fired by the school in the aftermath of the child sex abuse scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
Paterno and a reputation tarnished by the scandal remain sensitive topics for factions of alumni, former players, staffers and residents in Happy Valley.
