PORTLAND - Mike Aviani's two-goal performance was overshadowed by Todd Fiddler's hat trick and the Spokane Chiefs rolled to a 5-2 win over the Western Conference-leading Portland Winterhawks in Western Hockey League play on Monday before 5,347 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Mitch Holmberg dished out two assists and Eric Williams stopped 33 of 35 shots for the Chiefs (29-16-2, 60 points), who are five point behind third-place Kamloops in the Western Conference.

It was Fiddler's second-career hat trick, and he leads the WHL with 33 goals.

Spokane snapped a 3-game losing streak, its longest of the season.

Portland (37-7-1, 76 points) got goals from Ty Rattle and Presten Kopeck.
