| January 22, 2013 8:00 PM

T.J. Oshie and Alexander Steen scored in the shootout, and the St. Louis Blues edged the Nashville Predators 4-3 in Nashville Tenn.

The Blues won the Central Division last season, but the Predators won the season series 4-1-1 with three of those games going to a shootout. This time, the Blues had the only goals in a shootout that lasted only two rounds. Brian Elliott, who came off the bench in the second, stopped Craig Smith and Martin Erat to get the win.

Islanders 4, Lightning 3: At Uniondale, N.Y., David Ullstrom scored early in the third period to give New York a big lead, and the Islanders held off Tampa Bay.

Senators 4, Panthers 0: Kyle Turris scored twice and Craig Anderson made 31 saves as host Ottawa shut out Florida in its home opener.

Bruins 2, Jets 1, SO: Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron scored in the shootout to lift host Boston over Winnipeg.

Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 3, SO: At Columbus, Ohio, Swiss rookie Damien Brunner scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lead Detroit past Columbus before 19,206 - the largest regular-season crowd at Nationwide Arena in the Blue Jackets' 11-plus seasons.

Sabres 2. Maple Leafs 1: Ryan Miller stopped 34 shots to lead Buffalo at Toronto.
