NIC ROUNDUP: Top-ranked Cardinal wrestlers knock off No. 3 Clackamas

| January 20, 2013 8:00 PM

* WRESTLING

OREGON CITY, Ore. - Brock Banta won his match at 125 pounds to get the top-ranked North Idaho College wrestling team started in a 27-13 win against the third-ranked Clackamas Cougars on Saturday night.

"Our smaller guys like Brock (Banta), Mikey (Rodriguez) and Jeremy (Golding) really got things rolling for us," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "It was a big win for Golding to avenge an earlier loss and for V.J. (Guilio) to go out and dominate his match the way he did, it should give him some confidence going forward. It's important to see how you're going to stack up against a ranked team like Clackamas, and I think our guys stepped up and put together a No. 1-ranked effort, especially in a hostile environment."

NIC competes in the Clackamas Open today in Oregon City.
