John David Edgerton Sr., 91

| January 19, 2013 7:10 PM

John David Edgerton Sr. went to be with the Lord on Jan. 16, 2013. John was 91 years old. He was born on Oct. 4, 1921, in Spearfish S.D. His mother Blanche V. Lambert and father Leroy D. Edgerton were musicians and played the piano and drums for the old time theaters. Blanche later worked for Macy's Department store in California. He also had a sister Betty Lou. Preceding our dad in passing was our mom June Ellen Knight Edgerton who left us on May 11, 2011. They were married for 69 1/2 years. John is survived by his four children: John David Edgerton Jr. and wife Barbara, Jeanine Burton, Susan Howell and husband Jon, and Daniel Edgerton. He leaves 31 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters-in-law and nephews and a niece.

John has resided in Coeur d'Alene for 26 years and had been actively involved in our community. He was past president of the AARP Chapter and belonged to the Forty and Eight club. He also belonged to the gold miners prospecting club and the coin collectors association. He was past district commander of the American Legion in Coeur d'Alene and used to ride the train in the parades.

Our dad was a manufacturer controller for Convair and General Dynamics aircraft company in San Diego, California. He left to join the U.S. Navy during World War II and then later returned to the same company. He was able to attend the honor flight to Washington, D.C., on his 91st birthday. It was a special time for him.

He attended the Baptist Church. He enjoyed many hobbies such as stamp collecting, fishing, bowling, coin collecting and gold panning.

He will be missed as he was loved by so many. His children have been blessed to have had him most of their lives. He was a great father and a good provider for his family. He will now join our mother in heaven where they can dance once more.

John's memorial service will be held Jan. 25, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the English Chapel in Coeur d'Alene. All friends and relatives are welcome to come join us as we celebrate our father's life.

We also would like to give our sincere thanks to the Hospice House in Hayden for the excellent care, love, and support they showed our father and family. They definitely helped make the transition of his final days more comfortable for him and the entire family.
