Wild Salmon Feast to benefit Family Promise

COEUR d'ALENE - Wild-caught salmon from the cold waters of Bristol Bay, Alaska, will be the featured fare at an upcoming benefit dinner and auction.

The 5th annual Wild Salmon Feast is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church.

This popular event is a benefit for Family Promise of North Idaho, which assists families in crisis. It is sponsored by three local Lutheran congregations, Trinity Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church of the Master, Coeur d'Alene, and St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Hayden.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has pledged $1,000 matching funds for the benefit event.

White cane sockeye salmon provides the wild salmon for the signature dish. Chicken is the alternate entree.

A no-host beer/wine bar will be featured, as well as auctions and entertainment.

Tickets are $25.

Volunteers to collect food on Saturday

COEUR d'ALENE - Volunteers will be collecting donations for local food banks on Saturday.

Volunteers will be stationed from noon to 6 Saturday at Super 1 Foods stores in Hayden and Coeur d'Alene, and the Super 1 store in Post Falls.

A contradance and potluck are being at the Harding Family Center, 6-10 p.m., also to benefit food banks. Music will be by "Ebb and Flow."

Admission is $8 per person/$20 per family and a donation of food.

Thieves target weapons in recent burglaries

COEUR d'ALENE - Thieves made off with a variety of weapons in two recent burglaries.

A break-in of a garage on John Loop was reported Thursday.

Items reported missing included three Japanese swords, arrows, five compound bows, and a spike ball with chain.

The victim told police she believed the theft occurred between late Jan. 11 and early Jan. 12.

Another burglary was reported Monday on Honeysuckle Drive.

The resident told police that someone broke in Dec. 1 and took firearms, tools and jewelry valued at more than $3,000.

Guns taken included black powder rifles and pistols.
