Fire destroys home in north Hayden
HAYDEN - A fire destroyed a home on Dodd Road north of Hayden on Sunday night.
No one was home during the fire and the cause is undetermined, according to the Northern Lakes Fire District.
"A neighbor passing by saw smoke and called 911," said Jim Lyon, Northern Lakes spokesman.
The fire, reported at 6:43 p.m., destroyed the four-bedroom, 2,000-square-foot structure at 2112 E. Dodd Road built in 1938.
The homeowner is Brian Eiter, according to Kootenai County records. He has insurance, according to firefighters.
The damage is estimated at more than $200,000.
When firefighters arrived at 6:54 p.m., the house was fully involved and a second alarm was called.
"Due to the extensive fire involvement in the home, it was determined that efforts would be to protect nearby exposures including a large propane tank," Lyon said.
Lyon said the origin of the fire is being investigated and difficult to pinpoint due to the severity of the fire.
The family has young children and has found a rental to live in, Lyon said.
"They indicated that they have family and friends to help them," he said. "They had been out of town for a few days and had just come back to the area when they got the call (about the fire)."
Due to no hydrants in the vicinity, water tenders arrived to provide additional water.
Crews from Coeur d'Alene, Timberlake, Spirit Lake and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue assisted Northern Lakes. Crews terminated at 11:58 p.m.
