BUSES: Drivers are well-prepared

| January 16, 2013 8:00 PM

I have been a school bus driver for over 10 years, and when I came to drive a bus I knew I was amongst like minded people who cared about the safety of your child as much as I do.

Our transportation department is made up of people who have served our community in various ways, we have retired police officers, fire fighters, politicians, pastors, business owners, and even a retired Porsche race car driver. These are the people driving your children to and from school every day. We are all long time members of this community and call North Idaho our home.

As school bus drivers we carry a commercial driver’s license which requires a full physical every two years, we volunteer for random drug testing, we perform a pre-trip inspection on our buses before they leave the bus yard every day, checking the oil and mechanics, tires, flashers, emergency exits and fluids all to ensure the safety of your child. For those of you who live on rural routes, we contact road crews to plow and sand roads first thing in the morning, we maintain relationships with police and fire departments, all to ensure the safety of your child.

So, when you see that school bus coming down the road you can be assured that the driver behind the wheel has the safety and training to do their job. Let your voices be heard and help us do the job we love which is ensuring the safety of your child.
