Daycare for the masses
Active for 46 years and now with 135 children, the ABCD Daycare Center has served between 2,000 and 3,000 Coeur d'Alene kids during its existence. This means it's served even more adults who have been "free" for employment and activities.
And that number will grow. ABCD is building its second facility.
Now and remaining at 1124 N. C St., ABCD's second location will be at 3250 W. Robison Ave. (near Atlas Elementary School). The new place will have six classrooms and an indoor gym. With seven employees there, owners Chris and Andy Bjurstrom plan to open with about 75 kids ages 2-1/2 and up this summer.

Yoga Room CDA also in Hayden
Shuffling the kids to daycare will allow some time to participate in hot yoga in The Yoga Room CDA, which will celebrate its grand opening Tuesday. Maintaining that the activity is more relaxing in a room 75 to 95 degrees, the facility is at 10183 N. Aero Drive (near the airport).
Classes are with a monthly fee or a drop-in rate. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 10-11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Key people are Celeste Jara and Michelle Cruz. Phone (909) 890-8421.
Garnet has 'seasoned' new owners
Maintaining that the menu and staff at The Garnet Cafe will remain the same, the popular eatery at 315 E. Walnut Ave. has new owners in Justin and Angeline McLane and Everett Fees.
The McLanes have McLane Farms emphasizing organic and locally sustainable goods and Solar Stone, a solar and wind energy company.
Fees has been a chef at Beverly's and Bistro on Spruce in Cd'A, Patsy Clark's in Spokane, The Clark House and Everett's on the Lake in Hayden Lake and The Copa in Hayden. He says The Garnet "has the best breakfast with the most amazing staff."
With 10 employees, hours are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The facility seats 42 customers at tables and the counter and adds seasonal outside seating. Phone 667-2729.
