Winterhawks rally past Chiefs in third
PORTLAND, Ore. - Garret Hughson had 36 saves for Spokane, but the Chiefs were outscored 4-0 in the third period of a 5-2 loss to the Portland Winterhawks in Western Hockey League action Friday night in front of 8,378 at the Rose Garden.
Brendon Kichton's 13th goal of the season for Spokane late in the first period tied the game at 1 after the first. Spokane took a 2-1 lead on Todd Fiddler's 28th goal five minutes into the second period.
Spokane (27-14-1-0, 55 points) hosts Kootenay, which has won seven straight, tonight at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena.
Mort update: Spokane Chiefs defenseman Tanner Mort will be inactive for the foreseeable future after he and the organization reassessed his injury situation.
Mort, from Post Falls, has not played since suffering an upper body injury on Oct. 12 in Kamloops. He has been practicing with the team in a non-contact manner.
Mort has played 135 career games for Spokane, including seven this season, and another 29 playoff games. He appeared in a career-high 63 games two seasons ago.
