Chuck Heath Sr. to speak at outdoors event at Cd'A church
Chuck Heath Sr., father of Sarah Palin and co-author of "Our Sarah: Made in Alaska," will be the guest speaker at the "Great Outdoors Day" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Lake City Community Church.
Heath, who lives in Wasilla, Alaska, and friend Chuck Moe of Spokane will give a presentation on hunting and fishing in Alaska.
There will also be moose chili and cornbread, vendors and prizes. Phil Cooper from Idaho Fish and Game will give a demonstration on scoring antlers. Feel free to bring your 2012 harvest antlers to the antler display table.
"If you're an outdoorsman, this is a great event for you," said Rodney Wright, LCCC pastor.
Wright said Heath is a great storyteller and folks will enjoy his presentation.
"Let his enthusiasm for the outdoors inspire us," he said.
Heath, who grew up in Hope and graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1956, has called Alaska home for nearly 50 years.
He plans to talk about being a big game guide, hunting, fishing and gold mining.
"It will depict what I've done for 49 years," he said during a phone interview while he was in Anchorage.
Heath, with son Chuck Heath Jr., wrote "Our Sarah: Made in Alaska" that came out last year. The two men made a stop in Coeur d'Alene in October to promote the book.
He said he and Sarah, former governor of Alaska, Republican nominee for vice president in 2008 and political analyst, still go fishing and hunting together.
He said the hunting and fishing in Alaska aren't quite what they once were, but it's still great. He'll offer up a few tips for those planning an Alaska visit.
"You have to know where to go," he said.
Tickets are $5 and available at Michael D's Eatery, Le Peep, Owl Cafe, Black Sheep Sporting Goods, Wholesale Sports, Hoffman Boots in Kellogg and Lake City Community Church.
