SWIMMING

The Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team Crocs brought over 100 swimmers to the Jingle Bell Invitational held at Whitworth University in Spokane on Dec. 15-16.

The meet was one of the largest invitationals in area history, with 430 athletes signed up to compete from a dozen different clubs. CAST handily won the meet, besting the host team by nearly 200 points.

The Crocs had multiple high-point winners in their age groups, including Julia Pierce, Hailey Pierce, Caleb Markowski, Cole Curtis and Jonathan Archer (tied for first), and Nicole Rozier. Other top-3 point finishers were Rosie Loftus (3rd), Alisa Felshaw (2nd), Gabe Markowski (3rd), Maggie de Tar (2nd), and Tiffany Portue (2nd).

CAST set a team record for the number of swimmers sent, and also had one team record broken in the 100 breaststroke by Bryce Kananowicz.

There were also a host of new swimmers competing in their first meet. Andrew Averett, Annika Bekken, Preston Benson, Ethan Halsted, Faith Mathes, Emma Park, Tyler Schoen, Jake Whiting, Emma Wilson, Toriana Wilson, Ruthy Winton, and Teddy Winton all attended their first meet for the Crocs.

The Christmas season brings the most intense training for the swim team, which will next compete in the Washington Open meet Jan. 18-20 in Federal Way, Wash.
