PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City doubles up Lewiston in league play

COEUR d'ALENE - JJ Winger knocked down a shot that traveled 3/4 the length of the court before falling as time expired in the first half on his way to a game-high 21 points and Lake City defeated Lewiston (2-9, 0-1) 60-30 in 5A Inland Empire League play Tuesday night.

"It was probably our best game of the season to this point," Lake City assistant coach Kelly Reed said. "JJ shot the ball great and we had pretty balanced play from everyone else."

Riley Moreen had 11 points and five assists and Justin Pratt added 10 points and five assists for the Timberwolves (9-3, 2-0), who host Coeur d'Alene in the annual Fight for the Fish game Friday night.

"This win is a great way to head into the Fish game because that game is so different from any other game," Reed said. "It's difficult to call plays because you can't hear and it's a crazy atmoshpere that is an amazing experience for the players."

"Moscow came out prepared well and got into us tight defensively," Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. "We shot the ball well and hit 11 3s as a team to keep us in the game."

NEWPORT, Wash. - Trevor Masterson scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Tigers past the Grizzlies in a nonleague game.

"We just picked up our defensive intensity," Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. "We threw a press at them and started to get some transition buckets."

Mason Cramer and Jon Thompson had eight rebounds each for Timberlake (9-2), which travels to Lakeland on Friday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Karlee Wilson scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Bengals past the Timberwolves in 5A Inland Empire League play.

Madi Farrell scored nine points for Lake City, which rallied from a 22-14 halftime deficit to tie the game at 28-28 before the Timberwolves were outscored 17-6 in the final quarter.

"It was by far one of the best games we've played offensively and defensively," Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. "It was the best first quarter we've had all year, but unfortunately went back to our old ways in the second quarter. We were right there, but just couldn't finish it."

Amber Hawkes had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Lake City (9-6, 0-3 5A IEL), which hosts Coeur d'Alene in the Fight for the Fish spirit game on Friday.

"Amber played the best game she's played all year," Kelly said. "She just played great and we need her to do that for us."

Paige Wells added 11 points for Lewiston (13-3, 2-1).

"Both Tristan and Kody did a great job of wrestling up a class and getting wins," Timberlake coach Ryan Montang said. "Kody just kept working and did a good job to seal the deal in overtime."
