PREP WRESTLING: Trojans' Foster wins at Rollie Lane

| January 6, 2013 8:00 PM

NAMPA - Post Falls sophomore Drake Foster got some payback on Saturday afternoon for an earlier setback this season.

Foster defeated Issac Aguilar of Hermiston by a 3-2 decision to win the 120-pound championship at the 13th annual Rollie Lane Invitational on Saturday at the Idaho Center. Aguilar beat Foster 6-0 in the semifinals of the Tri-State Invitational last month at North Idaho College.

"He did a great job," Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. "Really, the biggest match he was shooting for was in the finals. He lost to him in the semifinals at Tri-State and he'd been training and focusing on wrestling that specific kid - and he got some payback. He was really focused the last couple of weeks."

Seth McLeod (170 pounds) and Cody Johnson (182) each finished third and Austin Wilson (160) and Alius De La Rosa (106) both took fourth for Post Falls, which finished fifth out of 44 teams.

"Coming out of this weekend, we definitely know we have a lot of things to work on," Reardon said. "We definitely saw some areas we need to improve. Coming into the second part of the season, we know we need to get better. We lost some matches we'd like to get back, but we also won some great matches."

Post Falls will host the annual River City Duals on Friday and Saturday at The Arena.

Anthony Price beat Trent Johnson of Centennial in the fifth-place match at 98 pounds for Coeur d'Alene. Hudson Staub defaulted in his placing match at 170 with a torn labrum and finished sixth.

"Anthony wrestled tough all day," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. "He really controlled the match against a good wrestler from Centennial. Hudson is a tough kid and has been wrestling through it all year. Gabe Ross wrestled well, but was a match from placing. It's a tough tournament and it gets tougher every year."

Coeur d'Alene hosts Capital on Thursday before competing at the Rocky Mountain Classic next weekend in Missoula.

Hermiston (Ore.), which won the championship at Tri-State at NIC last month, won the team title.

Timberlake's Herring

2nd at U-High tourney

SPOKANE - Timberlake's Forrest Herring was the top local finisher, placing second at 170 pounds in the Pacific Northwest Classic on Saturday at University High.

"It was big to have Forrest in the finals," Timberlake coach Ryan Montang said. "It would have been nice if he could have won, but he got put on his back a few times. It was our first time being invited to this tournament and sometimes you get a little nervous, but it was nice to see our kids wrestle to their abilities and put their nerves aside."

Timberlake's Kody Hongslo lost to Dylan Cronkhite of Ferris to finish fourth at 126 and Tristan O'Brien was sixth at 120 for Timberlake, which hosts Bonners Ferry on Tuesday.

"I thought they wrestled well this weekend," Montang said. "There was lots of good competition and experienced wrestlers. To come through and place in that kind of a tournament is pretty good."

Jared Lambert of Lake City lost by a 4-3 decision to John Fairbanks of University to finish fourth at 160.

"It was a real close match," Lake City coach Corey Owen said. "Jared just ran out of energy, but wrestled solid all weekend. It was a real tough weight class."

Lake City faces Whitefish and Libby on Thursday in Frenchtown, Mont.
