Post Falls Center is calling you

Dear Seniors and/or fellow members of Post Falls Senior Center:

About three years ago my wife and I first visited the center for lunch. Since that time a series of disasters have occurred at the center. First, frozen fire sprinkler pipes ruptured, then the furnaces leaked natural gas and had to be replaced, and now a food freezer/cooler has died.

You know the building is like us humans. As we age our parts wear out or deteriorate - such as hips, knees, problems with the heart or other organs. You say, "not me!" Just wait awhile. Our bodies aren't cheap to fix either!

The center is in critical need of financial help and volunteers, to help in many ways to keep expenses as low as possible. If you or your family or friends have ever gained any benefit from the services provided by this organization, now is the time to help generously with money and by being a dependable volunteer. You will be the one who benefits the most from this.

One of the things we have learned in life, and at the center, is that each of us at times needs help and encouragement, and the individuals at the center have seen enough of the happy times and trials in life, so they are uniquely qualified to recognize when you need encouragement and give it.

Some (yours truly) like to tell groaner jokes and you might feel like throwing eggs or tomatoes at the joke teller. Regularly, individual singers and groups provide entertainment. Many people like to play bingo (heaven knows why) and they play every week. One of the problems that might be expected, and that is that death comes knocking at our door and one day a man or woman is missing, impressing on us that we are not immortal.

To list the many activities available would be endless and those attending have the privilege and opportunity to suggest. New games, movies, activities, trips to the casino or wherever. We all need each other in life and we have the great privilege, honor and duty to be a helper, listener, counselor and friend to one another. God has built us that way!

You are welcome to come and fulfill the need someone you don't even know has, and gain some help in return. You will find a friendly, socially healthy atmosphere at the center when you come to visit. There are so many activities to satisfy your varied interests. With state and federal support decreasing, the PFSC really needs each of you to come regularly to lunch, become involved, and help us to preserve this great service facility for the future!

Can the center count on you at this critical time?
