Mullan bridge project awarded
MULLAN - S & L Underground of Bonners Ferry was awarded a contract for construction of a new bridge east of Mullan.
S & L submitted a low bid of $1.03 million, said Todd Bartolome, resident engineer at LHTAC, the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council, a quasi-state agency in Boise that serves at the behest of cities, counties and highway districts.
The contract was awarded Dec. 6.
The project will replace a bridge built in 1936 along with nearly two-tenths of a mile of roadway on Friday Avenue east of Mullan.
Construction is set to begin on July 2, Bartolome said. The project has a 100-day window for completion.
There is no road realignment associated with the project, but it will include a detour north of Friday Avenue that connects with Larson Road before tying back into Friday Avenue.
At the time of construction, the current bridge was a part of State Highway 10, aka the Yellowstone Trail, according to Bartolome.
Last year, Hecla Mining Co. contributed $65,000 to the project, which served as Shoshone County's required portion.
Bartolome said that funding from the project came from the Federal Highway Administration, which requires a 7.34 percent local match.
