Mitzie L. Casey, 78

Mitzie L. Casey, age 78, passed away at the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, ID, on Jan. 3, 2013.

Mitzie was born in Apia, Samoa, on Feb. 15, 1934, to Moody and Louisa (Stehlin) Rivers. She was raised in Western Samoa and New Zealand. In 1957, she left New Zealand to come to America. On the ship to America, while working with the Maori dance troop, she met her future husband Desmond. Mitzie married Desmond Casey on Aug. 13, 1960, in San Francisco, Calif.. They resided in San Carlos, Calif., for many years until moving to Post Falls in 2002. In 1995, she converted to Catholicism after many prayers from her husband.

Mitzie was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls. She loved to sing, was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by her daughters Maria and husband Louis LaVe of Post Falls and Teresa and husband David Lloyd of Post Falls; grandchildren Shawn Russell, Denny LaVe, Teresa Ragan, Causja Wohletz, Angela Mayer, Jean-Luc LaVe, Stefan LaVe, Louis-Marcel LaVe, Juliana LaVe, Sebastian LaVe and Seth-Patrick LaVe, Thaddeus Lloyd and Desmond T. Lloyd,; great-grandchildren Ryan, Isaac and Liam Russell, James, Tescelin, Brendan, Malachi, Frances, and Sean LaVe, Ariana and Augustine Wohletz, Silas and Brynley Mitzie Ragan, Xander Liam and Zoe Elaina Mayer.?Mitzie is preceded in death by her father Moody March 31, 1958, mother Louisa March 19, 1990, husband Desmond M. Casey Feb. 14, 2010, son Desmond John Casey Nov. 25, 1999, great grand daughter Vivienne Louise Joan Wohletz Dec. 10, 2012. 4 sisters: Jean Rivers March 24, 1989, Mavis Rivers May 29, 1992, Natalie Himphill Feb. 7, 1999, and Sally Tormey Jan. 6, 2007. Brother Junior (Chuck) Rivers July 8, 2006.

Memorials may be made to St. Dominic’s Convent, 20274 W. Riverview Dr., Post Falls, ID 83854.

Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, and Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, both at Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls, is in charge of the arrangements
