William August Silva, 92

William August Silva, 92, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Dec. 16, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene. He was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Hanford, Calif., to Manuel M. and Rose Marie Silva.

On March 16, 1951, he married Emily Louise Downs in Washoe County, Nev. William was a loving husband to Emily for 61 years. They lived their lives together always walking hand in hand. Never doing anything without the other. They had a love that most people dream of having. He was a loving and caring father. He was always there for the family and for anyone that needed help.

William was a World War II Combat Engineer Veteran. He was awarded the Bronze star, Philippines liberation Ribbon, the Pacific Campaign World War II Victory Medal and the medal for good conduct. He was the kind of man that men respected but also a man that had a kind heart. He quit school after the sixth grade so he and his brother could go to work on farms and help bring income to his mother and his family. He was always successful in anything he did. Most of all he was a great father. To his family he was a hero. William was a mechanic and small business owner. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking and baking.

William is survived by his children, Samuel, Earnie, Timothy and Shannon and daughters-in-law, Pamela Silva and Karen Silva. Grandchildren include Amber Silva Futrell, Cristie Cremo, Matthew Silva, Dustin Silva, Desaray Kjolseth and Bree Kjolseth. Great-grandchildren include Kenzie, Aden, Charlotte and Michael. William was preceded in death by his four brothers, Ernest, Louis, Joseph and Frank; and two sisters, Thelma Rogers and Bernice Watson. William’s wife Emily passed away April 6, 2012.
