COLLEGE MEN: No. 3 'Zona tops Buffs in OT

Kevin Parrom scored five of his 16 points in overtime after No. 3 Arizona staged an improbable late rally in regulation and the Wildcats escaped with a 92-83 victory over Colorado (10-3, 0-1) in their Pac-12 opener on Thursday night at Tucson, Ariz.

Colorado's Sabatino Chen banked in a 3-pointer at the end of regulation but officials waved it off after reviewing the video, saying the ball was on his fingertips as the backboard lights went on to show time had expired.

Arizona (13-0, 1-0) outscored the Buffaloes 10-2 over the final 1:35 of regulation to force the overtime.

UCLA 79, California 65: At Los Angeles, Kyle Anderson had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Shabazz Muhammad added 16 points and UCLA (11-3, 1-0 Pac-12) defeated Cal (8-5, 0-1).

Southern California 71, Stanford 69: At Los Angeles, Jio Fontan scored 15 points, including a pair of tiebreaking free throws with 6.9 seconds to play, and USC (6-8) pulled out a victory over Stanford (9-5) in the Pac-12 opener for both schools.

No. 2 Michigan 94, Northwestern 66: At Evanston, Ill., Trey Burke scored 23 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 21 and Michigan pounded Northwestern (9-5, 0-1).

Off to their best start since they opened the 1985-86 season with 16 wins, the Wolverines (14-0, 1-0) had no trouble in the Big Ten opener after breezing through the non-conference portion of their schedule.

They built a 21-point halftime lead with Burke and Hardaway Jr. leading the way.

Denver 64, Texas State 53: At Denver, Chris Udofia scored 15 points and Denver won for the fifth time in its last seven games with a victory over Texas State (4-11, 0-3).

Brett Olson added 13 points and Chase Hallam had 11 for the Pioneers (6-7, 2-1 Western Athletic Conference).

New Mexico State 82, UTSA 62: At Las Cruces, N.M., Bandja Sy scored 25 points to lead New Mexico State (7-8, 1-2 WAC) past UTSA.

Former North Idaho College standout Michael Hale III scored 14 points, as did Kannon Burrage for the Roadrunners (4-9, 0-3).

Utah State 75, Seattle U 66: At Logan, Utah, Kylsean Reed had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Utah State (12-1, 3-0 WAC) past the Redhawks (5-7, 0-2).

BYU 92, Loyola Marymount 51: At Provo, Utah, Matt Carlino scored 21 points, including four 3-pointers, and BYU (11-4, 1-0 West Coast Conference) rolled past the Lions (7-7, 0-1).

San Diego 61, Portland 50: At San Diego, Christopher Anderson scored 14 points and San Diego (8-8, 1-0 WCC) beat Portland (7-9, 0-1).

Montana State 62, Portland State 59: At Bozeman, Mont., Flavien Davis scored 16 points and the Bobcats (4-7, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) beat the Vikings (3-7, 1-2).

Former Post Falls standout Marcus Colbert had four points and five assists for Montana State.

Former North Idaho College standout Renado Parker had seven points and six rebounds for Portland State.
