Which McEuen will it be?
COEUR d'ALENE - Around two dozen proposed additions, accounting for roughly $4 million, make up the difference between McEuen Field project plans the City Council could decide upon tonight.
The park designers, Team McEuen, are proposing the city include the amenities in the plan before the project breaks ground in early 2013. If approved tonight, the additional amenities and park project could be completed by November.
Including tennis courts, basketball courts, and expanded utility and trail connections would help make the park a one-of-a-kind public space once it's completed, they said.
The proposal for the additions was pitched last week, transforming what had been an estimated $14.2 million plan into a $16.8 million to $17.6 million one.
All additions had been part of earlier design drafts.
To bridge the financial gap, the city would have to secure between $3.4 million and $4.2 million to make the higher-end version of the park happen. Lake City Development Corp., the city's urban renewal agency, is already paying for the bulk of the project and has said it would be willing to consider picking up the difference.
But that shortfall assumes the city would be willing to dedicate roughly $1.4 million in next year's funds, and that Front Avenue property owners agree to a $1.2 million Local Improvement District. Those two decisions will go before the council tonight as well. The meeting is at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the public library.
Below are the itemized differences of the $14.2 million plan, which had been the draft as recently as this fall, and the $17.6 million version, proposed last week.
The difference between the $16.8 million and $17.6 million plans is the number of "add alternates," items that are bid separately and can be added or dropped from a project.
