TRAGEDY: Focus more on parenting

Re: The recent shooting tragedy in Connecticut. A lot has been said about the current gun situation in America, but that is really just the low hanging fruit — the easy way for people to throw blame around at a controversial topic. However, note that nothing much has been said pertaining to the indictment on society that this and other mass shootings actually indicate. Not so much the violence on TV or video games, but more to the core: modern parenting, teaching and medicine.

Many children who are deemed a challenge to raise or educate are now being doped up on Ritalin or Prozac because those charged as guardians are either too lazy or unable to cope with the challenge of raising them. The side effects of many of these anti-depressants are suicidal thoughts and suppressed aggression which we see are now manifesting themselves as mass killers.

I know that there are some cases where medication is a necessity and have seen remarkable results but that does not negate the fact that many individuals are over-medicated to the detriment of their personalities and psychological character.

This coupled with the moral decay of a society that seems obsessed with the debauchery of Hollywood and a government and legal system that nobody seems to have faith in has set the stage for the dysfunction we are facing as a nation.

The gun is an inanimate object, no different than the airplanes used on 9/11. It is the person(s) handling them that makes the difference. Wake up America!
