PERSONS: Logic lacking in city sale

| January 2, 2013 8:00 PM

The Coeur d’Alene School District owns a portion of Persons Field which the taxpayers bought many years ago. Now it wants to sell this property to raise money for the new school district headquarters building they have an option to purchase, located at the corner of Ironwood Drive and Northwest Boulevard. The City Parks Department would like to purchase the Persons Field property. The real question here is why should taxpayers spend money on property they already own. I see no reason to pay for Persons Field twice.

Hopefully someone will check out the City Charter and see if this is actually legal or perhaps challenge the idea in court. I think the only real option the school district has is to sell the property to a private buyer to raise their needed funds or donate the property to the Parks Department for a future park.
