Robert Verl Walters, 89
Robert Verl Walters, 89, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his home in Hayden. He was born July 21, 1923, in Thomas to Clifford and Ellen Walters.
He grew up near Rockford where he worked with his parents and nine brothers and sisters on a 160-acre farm. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing and also never missed a chance to play basketball, baseball and football. He continued to enjoy watching these sports throughout his life. He served for three years in the Army and was a veteran of World War II.
He married Cleo O. Casper on March 9, 1946, in Blackfoot. They lived for several years in South Eastern Idaho and then moved to Hayden in 1952. They enjoyed fishing, camping, square dancing, gardening and any opportunity to be outdoors.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the church throughout his life. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum and retired after 34 years.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Cleo Walters; sons, Kenneth of Kennewick, Wash., Rendell of Spokane and Joel of Hayden; daughter Jan Garrett of Post Falls; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brother Marvin Walters of Arizona and sister Arlene Clayton of Rigby. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a hard working, generous man who could build or fix anything and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, 407 E. Honeysuckle, Hayden.
