Norman Charles Gaunt, 71
After bravely fighting cancer, Norman Charles Gaunt, 71, of Dalton Gardens, was released into eternity surrounded by loving family and friends at the Hospice House on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.
The gathering of friends and family will be held from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Lake City Senior Center, 1916 N. Lakewood Drive, Coeur d’Alene. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of North Idaho in Norman’s name.
Norman was born May 30, 1941, and raised on a dairy farm in Hanford, Calif. He moved with his parents, Bonnie and Alfred Charles “Bud” Gaunt and younger brother, David, to Carlin Bay in 1960. There Norman worked his first job at the Russell Logging Company Sawmill in Harrison. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a Second Class Radioman during the Vietnam War on the Oceanic Survey ship USS Rehoboth AGS-50.
In 1966 he returned to the Coeur d’Alene area to raise his family. He worked as an appliance repairman for Dingell’s Hardware in Coeur d’Alene, moving on to Westinghouse and then A-1 Appliance in Spokane. Norman worked 40 plus years in this trade.
He was a life member of the VFW post 889 and was proud to be a part of the Kootenai County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Prior to his death he was awarded a plaque for the appreciation of his service by the men — his friends, his brothers of the VFW. Even though he was unable to express his appreciation with words, his emotions on this day spoke volumes of gratitude and love.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Alfred Charles “Bud” Gaunt of Carlin Bay and remains in the hearts of Norman’s three daughters with former wife Marcia; eldest child Linda, her husband Tony, granddaughters Sierra and Alyssa; middle child Vickie, her husband Jimmy and youngest child Charlyene and grandson Joseph Charles; brother David and his family in Oregon; cousins, Robert, Jimmy, Falvey Dean and Aunt Caroline and their families in California; and his loving spouse, Carole, her children, son Stacy, daughter Stephanie and their families in Washington.
