Alberta May Richmond, 90
Alberta May Richmond passed away at home on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.
Alberta, the eldest of seven children, was born Nov. 20, 1922, in Mitchell, Neb., to Albert and Mary Holmgren. She spent childhood on a homestead ranch in western Nebraska, boarded in town for high school and later taught in a country school.
During World War II she met Army man George Richmond at Fort Robinson, Neb. They married on June 1, 1946, and honeymooned in Yellowstone Park before George continued his roping/rodeo career. Alberta and George had four children while ranching in Montana, and in 1960 moved to Hayden Lake.
Alberta is known for her loving ways to all her family and friends, and especially to her dear husband of 66 years. She always had cookies, doughnuts, pies or cake to offer her kids, grandkids and the many friends who stopped by for coffee and a visit. Alberta always has an embroidery project going, giving sets of dishtowels to daughters and granddaughters. She has a close group of friends who celebrate with monthly birthday lunches.
Alberta rose early most mornings to build a fire and spend quiet time reading her Bible and praying for family, friends and country. Her prayers, humor and kindness have meant the world to all who know her. Alberta was a member of the Hayden Lake Friends Church (now Anthem Friends) for 50 years. In November 2012 her family celebrated her 90th birthday with a party and wonderful family time. She is the best wife, mother and grandma/great-grandma, always positive, full of fun and wisdom, generous.
Alberta is survived by her husband, George Richmond; children, JoAnne Nielsen (Tom), Lee Richmond (Jan), Dave Richmond (Lori) and Jeanne Northfield; 10 grandchildren, Mike, Mary (Chris), Lynn (Ben), Toby (Kirsten), Brander, Elisabeth (Jason), Lacy (Tom), Tori, John and Matthew; three great-grandchildren, Noah, Nathan and Mackenzie; siblings, Jane, Arline, MaryAnn, Pat and Becky; and many friends.
Viewing will be held from 6-7 p.m. today, Feb. 28, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel.
