| February 24, 2013 12:21 PM

Lorna Marie Werst Benedict passed away Feb. 21, 2013, at Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene. She was born Dec. 8, 1959, in Enterprise, Ore., to Jack and Irene Werst.

The family moved several times during her childhood to include, Huntsville, Wash., Spokane, Osburn, then on to Coeur d'Alene where she graduated high school in 1978. While growing up she rode snowmobiles and skied in the winters and enjoyed many camping trips in the summers. While in Wallace, she was a Wallace High School Cheerleader and participated in the Campfire girls.

After high school she worked at Cedar’s Restaurant where she met David Mitcham. They married in 1979. Lorna and Dave had a daughter, Krystal. They later divorced. After that, she and Krystal moved to Maui, Hawaii, where they lived for several years. Lorna made her way back to the Lewiston/Clarkston area and married Kim Benedict. They had a son, Keeton, in 1989. They later divorced. For many years, she worked as a cosmetologist in Lewiston where she built a large clientele. While in Lewiston she became an avid golfer where she achieved a hole in one which she was very proud of. She moved back to Coeur d'Alene years later and worked in the restaurant and hotel business. Eventually she moved to Osburn and was able to reunite with a lot of her friends from school. She was our social butterfly in the family. We will all miss her smile, contagious laugh and her never ending jokes.

She is survived by her loving parents, Jack and Irene Werst of Coeur d’Alene; daughter Krystal (Kyle) Corbaley of Kennewick, Wash.; son Keeton Benedict of Lewiston; grandchildren, Michael and Lily Corbaley; sisters, Cindy Volk (Pat Sperry) of Meridian and Neva (Bill) O’Haire of Great Falls, Mont.; and brother Dan (Michelle) Werst of St. Maries. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and “many great friends” and of course GIDDYUP truck. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond and Geneva Werst, and Herb and Georgia Casteel; and nephew Brady Volk.

So sorry you had to go so soon. We will love and miss you Lorna Doone. Donations can be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 North Government Way Hayden, ID 83835.

Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. Please visit Lorna’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
