Chiefs blank Blazers

SPOKANE - Garret Hughson notched the second shutout of his Western Hockey League career, helping the Spokane Chiefs to a 2-0 win over the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday night before 8,773 at Spokane Arena.

Spokane's Blake Gal and Todd Fiddler scored 24 seconds apart midway through the second period.

With the win, the Chiefs (36-24-2, 74 points) are now one point behind fourth-place Tri-City and five points ahead of sixth-place Victoria in the Western Conference.

Spokane begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday at Everett at 7 p.m.
