Robert James Tavares, 70

??Retired Navy Senior Chief Robert James Tavares, born Aug. 5, 1942, in New Bedford, Mass., died Feb. 14, 2013, at the VA Community Living Center in Spokane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Tavares of New Bedford; his brother, Bill Tavares; sister Debbie Cabral and son, Tommy Tavares. He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Tavares; son Robert Tavares Jr.; daughter Deanna Johnson; brothers, John, Michael and Peter; sister Flora; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the VA Community Living Center in Spokane. He will be buried at sea at a later date.
