Haynes elected Administrative District Judge
Judge Lansing L. Haynes has been elected as the Administrative District Judge for the First Judicial District. He assumes those duties on April 1, starting a three-year term.
As ADJ, Judge Haynes will apportion the workload for the district judges, assign cases and make policies and procedures, while continuing his current judicial duties. He was selected by a majority vote of district judges in the First District and will replace Judge John T. Mitchell in the position.
Haynes was appointed to the bench by former Governor (now U.S. Senator) James Risch in August 2006. He won popular election in 2010 and serves on the Idaho Supreme Court's Sentencing Committee as well as the Death Penalty Counsel Review and Recommendation Committee.
He spent most of his childhood in North Idaho. He is a graduate of Twin Falls High School, The College of Idaho, and the Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Haynes was the chief deputy prosecuting attorney for Kootenai County for about 18 years. Before that, he served in the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney's office and in the Ada County Public Defender's office.
