DEER: The meat of the matter
We live very close to where the current poached deer have been found, and though I don’t agree at all with the fact they’re being left for dead, I completely support whoever is getting rid of these deer as they’re a complete nuisance around here just like the wolves are in other areas. We have had several years worth of meetings with Dalton City Hall about how something needs to be done about this epidemic, and they offer no solutions and not much more than an attitude of “quit your whining, we think they’re cute.” They destroy almost everything my parents and neighbors plant for livelihood. I’ve hit one and have to spend about $100 I don’t have to replace my headlight. They are as prevalent around here as rats in NYC and they need to be stopped as they just keep breeding.
We have proposed a controlled hunt on them or Fish and Game needs to relocate them to forested areas where they belong so hunters can have meat legally. Even though it’s illegal to shoot them off season in a semi-rural area, I consider whoever is doing this to be defending their property. I only disagree with the fact they’re being left for dead. The meat could go to the food bank if the unconcerned in local government would address the epidemic and I would even volunteer to help prepare it. It is absurd that it had to come to this!
