LaVerne Stanley (Stan) Allen, 69, resident of Hayden Lake, died Jan. 23, 2013, at North Idaho Hospice House after an extended illness due to a stroke. Stan was born April 8, 1943, in Camrose, Alberta, Canada, to Stanley H. and Elsie (Johnson) Allen.

The family moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1962. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Returning from the military, he met and later married the former Linda Madison in 1968 in Spokane. They lived in Seattle, then Lewiston, moving to the Coeur d'Alene area in 1980. Stan was a phone line splicer with Pacific Northwest Bell for several years. They belonged to the National Federation of the Blind.?Stan is survived by his wife, Linda at home; two sons, Michael of Bremerton, Wash., and Steven of Seattle; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Liza, both of Bremerton; four brothers, John of Anchorage, Alaska, David of Cove, Ore., Ken of Palmer, Alaska, and Dan of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Marilyn Torvik of Shoreline, Wash., and Vernelle Gatzke of Houston, B.C., Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.?Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene, with military honors at 1:45 p.m. at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Wash.
