Jane Tomes, 81
Jane Marie Tomes, 81, passed away suddenly and peacefully at her home in Post Falls on Feb. 15, 2013. Janie, as she was affectionately known, was born May 11, 1931, in Missoula, Mont., to Clyde and Catherine (Deitz) Collins.
Although her father was in the Air force, stationed in California and Germany where she graduated from high school, she always called the Coeur d’Alene area home. She married Ray Tomes on Sept. 13, 1950, and began their journey. They were blessed with two children, Bruce and Cathy. During Ray’s career in the Air Force, Janie’s family lived on various bases in the United States, Japan and Germany. Moving to Texas in 1972, Janie helped Ray in a cabinet business and was able to spend more time with the light of her life, grandson, Jeremy. In 1985 they settled in Dalton Gardens, where Ray became involved in local politics, serving as mayor for three years. Travel and adventure were always a part of Janie’s life, her family spent many years camping and RVing, enjoying many beautiful places across the United States and Europe. They settled in Post Falls in 2000.
Janie enjoyed crocheting, crafts, fishing for kokanee and working in her yard, where you could often hear her singing or whistling a tune. She was known for her smile and sweet disposition...she always made everyone feel welcome in her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents and love of her life, Ray. She is survived by her son, Bruce Tomes; grandson Jeremy Tomes and wife Laura Tomes and their two sons; her daughter, Cathy Thede and son-in-law Fred Thede; and her loyal 4-legged friend, Scooter. She is also survived by Donna and Jim Runge, Betty and Olin Davis, Barbara and Don Morse, Billie Rae Abels, and many cousins. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Janie’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel.
