PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Lakeland can't corral Moscow
MOSCOW - No. 2 seed Lakeland took a slim lead early in the third quarter, but top-seeded Moscow pulled away with an 18-1 run late for a 66-49 victory over the Hawks in the semifinal game of the 4A Region 1 tournament Thursday night at Bear Den.
Moscow (15-5) advances to next Thursday's championship game at home, where it will face the winner of Tuesday's loser-out game pitting Lakeland (11-11) at home vs. Sandpoint (2-19).
Nick Ellison, a 6-6 junior, hit a couple key baskets in that fourth-quarter run, and 6-7 Brandon McGurkin added a big 3-point play.
"I thought we played hard, and we played well in stretches," Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. "But just to beat a team that's that good, we have to play more consistent."

Ellison scored 16 points, Dane Randall 15 for Moscow, which hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter - two by Jack Akey - to lead 21-11.
