YOUTH SPORTS: Hoop shoot, rec basketball and more
ELKS HOOP SHOOT
Local student-athletes representing the Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge will once again be making their presence felt at the Northwest Regional Hoop Shoot Championships on March 2 in Vancouver, Wash.
Zach Mackimmie, in the boys' 12-13 year old age division, and Taylor Dietz-Roberts, in the girls' 8-9 year old category, both earned a trip to the next level of the competition by winning the Idaho State Championships on Feb. 9 in Nampa.
It is Mackimmie's second consecutive trip to Regionals and Dietz-Roberts' first time. MacKimmie was a National Hoop Shoot Finalist last year as a 10-11 year old contestant.
"Our Lodge is very proud of all of the kids that have represented us this year during the Hoop Shoot competition," said Coeur d'Alene Elks Hoop Shoot director Rick Alexander Jr. "In addition to being excellent competitors, all of our kids have displayed tremendous sportsmanship along the way. That is a testament to their families and their teachers."
Tyson Pottenger took third at the State Championships in the boys 8-9 year old category.
Also participating for Coeur d'Alene were Dylan Bengtson in the boys 10-11 year old division and Ali Rollins in the girls' 12-13 year old division.
