ISP: Driver cited for DUI didn't drive home

Idaho State Police Cpt. Curtis Kastens said Wednesday that the Coeur d’Alene deputy fire chief who was cited but not arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol Dec. 22 was picked up by another driver and given a ride home after failing a sobriety test at the scene.

Jim Washko, a 15-year veteran of the fire department, was cited and released for DUI after registering a .130/.131 blood-alcohol content, as reported in a Feb. 1 Press article. The ISP probable cause report didn’t explain how Washko got home that night, and Kastens didn't elaborate during an interview.

On Wednesday, he responded to further questioning via email that said Washko was picked up.

“The name of the person who picked up Washko is not listed and Trooper Hall (who issued the citation) is not available for an interview on this matter,” he wrote.

Washko hasn’t returned phone calls on the issue.
