Couple has a heart for boxers
Steve Ducomman has a heart for boxers ... the four-legged kind. Growing up his family owned boxers and now Steve and his wife, Dana, have opened their hearts and home to the breed. Volunteering with North Idaho Boxer Rescue and then taking the helm of the organization three years ago, the Ducommans and an army of dedicated volunteers find foster and forever homes for the dogs who end up at "kill" shelters throughout the state and region.
In 2012 NIBR placed 68 boxers with families. Steve describes the breed as playful, people loving companions. And on Sunday he will partner with Paws and Claws Pet Resort, 2900 Government Way in Coeur d'Alene, to host a meet and greet for the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At this time there are nine boxers awaiting their forever families.
Find North Idaho Boxer Rescue on Facebook or give Steve a call at (208) 215-0512 if you have a heart for boxers, too.
Nothing says love like a little roller derby action and this weekend is filled with opportunities to enjoy. On Saturday the North Idaho Roller Derby gals will skate in the Beat My Valentine tournament at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds. Info: www.skatenird.com. And Sunday is Cupid's Revenge at Skate Plaza featuring the newest Snake Pit Derby Dames team member and Renaissance Woman, Amy Bartoo. I absolutely LOVE that Amy has embraced the sport, much to the surprise of just about everyone. She's fearless and fabulous!
Be sure to tune in to American Idol tonight on FOX to see the Hollywood semifinal auditions. Look for the beautiful and talented Brooke Hayden of Coeur d'Alene!
Both the Post Falls Trojans and Coeur d'Alene Vikings girls basketball teams are headed to Nampa for the state tournament that starts tomorrow. I wager that these two teams will be the last teams standing in the championship game on Saturday night!
