A Cataldo resident's home was destroyed in a fire Sunday night.

John Carney built the home on Latour Creek Road in 1970, and had lived there since.

His daughter, Shannon Carney, called the fire department around 11:10 p.m.

"I'm so glad my dad's OK, but it's horrible that all of his things were burnt up," she said while sifting through the charred remains of the home. "My dad had just replaced all of his appliances with new ones and bought a new TV."

First responders arrived on the scene at 11:40 p.m., but the fire was already in full force.

"When we arrived on the scene, we had to go into a defensive mode because the fire was so hot it wasn't safe to send any of the fireman inside to fight the fire," Fire Chief Dale Costa said.

The fire took several hours to put out and was cleared at 4:30 a.m. Monday. The cause is under investigation.

Shannon Carney added that the memories from the unique log cabin were going to be the most difficult thing to lose.

Donations are being accepted as Carney lost nearly everything in the fire.

Donations may be dropped off at The Mission Inn at Cataldo.

Ann Ware of The Mission Inn at Cataldo mentioned the inn will be hosting a (plate donation) spaghetti feed 4-8 p.m. Sunday to benefit Carney.
