Wanted man found hiding in garbage bin
A 28-year-old man wanted in Kootenai County on a felony warrant was arrested early Saturday after a foot pursuit and when he was found hiding in a garbage bin.
Jason Brioso, wanted on a $50,000 warrant locally for delivery and possession of a controlled substance, was arrested in Spokane Valley after a deputy saw a vehicle with a broken taillight lens.
Brioso, from Spokane and originally from the Post Falls area, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of methamphetamine and a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, having motor vehicle theft tools, resisting arrest, obstructing, third-degree assault and the Idaho warrant.
His previous history in Kootenai County includes charges for unlawful entry, burglary, theft, fraud and DUI.
"We've been dealing with him since 2001," said Post Falls police Capt. Greg McLean.
When the Spokane Valley deputy found the vehicle with a broken taillight lens parked a few blocks from where he originally saw it, a female and Brioso were inside hunkered down, according to the incident report.
Brioso refused to listen to a deputy's order to stay inside the vehicle, the report states.
"Brioso was holding a black bag and he pushed (the deputy) in the chest in an attempt to get around him," a press release states. "Brioso dove into the front seat of the vehicle, in an attempt to flee, dropping the black bag on the front passenger floorboard."
A stolen semi-automatic Ruger .380 handgun out of Spokane, meth, a shaved Honda key and possible stolen debit cards were found in the bag.
Brioso eluded the deputy during a foot pursuit through several yards.
A K-9 and backup deputies were called to the scene and, during the pursuit, shoes, a sock and pair of pants were found. At one residence, fresh footprints on a frost-covered deck, blood marks on a deck railing and a jacket next to the chimney were spotted.
Broken branches indicated that Brioso had jumped from the roof onto a tree on his way to the ground, the report states.
Brioso was then found nearby hiding in a garbage bin.
"Brioso was shivering from the cold and was not wearing pants, socks or shoes in the 20-degree weather," the press release states.
Medics checked Brioso out and cleared him to be booked into jail.
