Power nets first WHL goal in Chiefs' loss

SPOKANE - The Victoria Royals scored twice in the first 7 minutes, 8 seconds and led the rest of the way, beating the Spokane Chiefs 5-3 in Western Hockey League play Sunday night before 5,045 at the Spokane Arena.

Jamie Crooks scored a pair of goals for Victoria, and Austin Carroll added a goal and two assists.

Spokane, playing its fourth game in five nights, dropped to fifth in the Western Conference, two points behind Victoria and one point ahead of Tri-City.

Chiefs defenseman Adam Power of Post Falls scored his first WHL goal 9:40 into the third period to close out the scoring. Dylan Walchuk (shorthanded) and Mitch Holmberg (his 33rd) also scored for Spokane.

Victoria led 2-1 after one period, and 4-2 after two.

Spokane plays host to Calgary on Wednesday, the first of four games in six days.
