COEUR d'ALENE - Police arrested the father of a 2-year-old boy who wandered into a Coeur d'Alene bar Sunday afternoon.

Jesse W. Edwards, 36, Hayden, was arrested on a charge of child endangerment and transported to the Kootenai County jail, police said.

According to a press release, the boy was alone when he walked into Sully's Pub and Grill, 5785 N. Government Way, about 12:30 p.m.

"The child told state police officers his age, and said his name is Jake Edwards," the release said. "He said his dad's name is Jesse Edwards."

The blond, blue-eyed boy was wearing a blue and green Batman pajama top inside out, a blue coat, dark blue sweatpants, and black boots with characters from the movie "Cars" on them.

"He was wearing a diaper when found that appeared to have not been changed for a while," the release said.

Idaho State Police contacted Jesse Edwards by cell phone and confirmed Jake Edwards was his son. They found Jesse Edwards at the Hayden Walmart.

"Officers stated that he appeared to be under the influence of a substance," the release said. "Edwards offered no explanation about how he became separated from his child."

The child's mother had not contacted police by late Sunday.

ISP made arrangements to release the child to the Department of Health and Welfare.
