Chiefs jump Tri-City in standings with victory

SPOKANE - Riley Whittingham recorded the first multi-goal game of his Western Hockey League career and Eric Williams had 30 saves as the Spokane Chiefs snapped a three-game losing streak to the Tri-City Americans with a 5-2 win Saturday night in front of 10,122 at the Spokane Arena.

With the win, Spokane (32-21-2, 66 points) moves into a tie with Victoria for fourth place in the Western Conference playoff race, one point ahead of Tri-City.

Tri-City took an early lead, but back-to-back goals by Whittingham gave Spokane a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Connor Chartier, Adam Helewka and Mike Aviani scored on three of Spokane's four shots in the third period.
