Vandals to visit Bengals in BracketBusters game

MOSCOW - The Idaho men's basketball team will play at Idaho State in its ESPN BracketBusters game in Pocatello on Saturday, Feb. 23 with a 1 p.m. tip-off.

The teams, both former Big Sky Conference rivals, have played 100 times in series history, with the Vandals leading 58-42. Idaho State is 4-17 overall and 3-9 in the Big Sky Conference. Idaho is scheduled to return to the Big Sky in all sports but football in 2014.

Idaho coach Don Verlin has faced Idaho State once in his head coaching career, a 61-59 loss on Dec. 28, 2008, in Pocatello.

Idaho is 4-4 in BracketBusters play since its first game in 2004 and has won three of its last four games, including last season's 77-68 win against Portland State in Moscow.

Eastern Washington to face familiar foe in BracketBusters

Eastern Washington knows a lot about the Sam Houston State Bearkats from the football field, just not much yet about their men's basketball team.

The Eagles will host Sam Houston State on Saturday, Feb. 23 for the ESPN BracketBusters game, with tipoff scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

Eastern will play a return game against Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas, probably in 2014-15.

A total of 122 schools are involved, but the Eagles-Bearkats game is not one of nine games picked to be broadcast on ESPN. Tickets may be purchased online at www.goeags.com.

Eastern played the Bearkats Dec. 15 in the semifinals of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, won by Sam Houston State 45-42. The teams will play each other the next two seasons, with a game this fall in Hunstville on Sept. 28 and in Cheney in 2014.
