PREP BASKETBALL: McInturff lifts Warriors over Mullan

COEUR d'ALENE - Katey Mae McInturff hit the game winner with four second left to hand the Kootenai Warriors (3-18) a 43-42 win over the Mullan Tigers (7-10) in the first round of the 1A Division II District 1 tournament at Lake City High.
With the win, Kootenai advances to play Clark Fork (8-12) in the district championship game on Thursday at Lake City High.
"It was an emotional roller coaster," Kootenai coach Mike LaFountaine said. "The game went back and forth.
McInturff made a layup to put the Warriors up 41-40 with 30 seconds left. On the other end, Robbyn Trogden made a field goal to give the Tigers a 42-41 lead with 11 seconds left.
"We called timeout and got a play set up," LaFountaine said. "Mullan took off their press, Katey Mae got penetration.
McInturff took the inbounds pass, dribbled the length of the floor and banked in the game winner with four seconds left."
"I hope to see all the Kootenai alumni out on Thursday to support these girls," LaFountaine said.
Kami McKinnon led Mullan with 12 points.

RATHDRUM - Strong first-quarter shooting deserted the Tigers in the second quarter and beyond, leading the Spartans to an easy win in the opening round of the 3A district tournament at Lakeland High School.
No. 4 seed Timberlake led top-seeded Priest River 12-9 after one period, but an 11-2 second quarter scoring edge helped the Spartans take control.
"We played well and made shots in the first quarter," Tigers coach Matt Miller said. "We made just as many shots in the first quarter as we did the rest of the game.
"We've struggled to score all season long, and that continued tonight."
Jessica Norlander's eight points led Timberlake (4-16), which will face Kellogg (9-9) in a loser-out game at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Jill Wiemer scored 18 points to lead Priest River (14-7), which advances to face Bonners Ferry at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both games are at Lakeland High School.

COEUR d'ALENE - Lexi Turkenburg scored 27 points and the Panthers beat the Lumberjacks in a 2A District 1 tournament game at Coeur d'Alene High School.
With the win, Coeur d'Alene Charter (17-3) advances to face Grangeville in a play-in game on Wednesday at Troy High School at 7:30 p.m.
Kerstin Auer led St. Maries (6-15) with 12 points.
"We started a full-court press late in the first half and we really practiced hard on doing that without fouling," Charter coach Doug Grant said. "That's what put this one away for us.
Grant said St. Maries shot very well, but his team did what it needed to do to move on. "It's district tournament stuff - I told the girls we only have to win by one to move on.
Grant said the Lumberjacks didn't enter the bonus in the second half. "We did a great job and avoided contact."
"We showed a lot of composure," he said. "They played us tougher than they have all season, and we showed confidence down the stretch and took care of business - just keeping with the game plan."

POST FALLS -Kailey Arnone scored 16 points and Joy Goodwin added 11 to help Genesis Prep take a Senior Night win over North Idaho Christian.
Genesis Prep players dedicated the night to Goodwin's father, Marc, who coached the team prior to his death last year.
Kana Shanley led the Royals (14-10, 10-9 Mountain Christian League) with 13 points.
Both teams will compete at the MCL tournament that begins Thursday at the HUB in Liberty Lake.

Sonder got a good post-up and made a shot while being fouled, then hit the ensuing free throw to give Lakeside the lead.
Knights coach Stacey Sonder said Francine Hendrickx hit two free throws near the end to close out the scoring.
"They made a thrid-quarter run on su and the girls were a little shell-shocked, but they pulled out of it." Sonder said. "Their resiliency pulled them through. It was a good game on both ends - Wallace really hustled hard tonight."
