MILITIA: Who should lead us?

| February 3, 2013 8:00 PM

J.D. Gaines says in his letter to the editor on 1/27/2013 that in his opinion I am wrong when I stated that the Constitution of the United States requires that citizens belong to a “well-regulated militia” in order to bear arms. Then he quotes a founder, George Mason, from the Virginia Declaration of Rights that supports my opinion, in my opinion.

So, again, I propose that we establish a well-regulated militia in Kootenai County to be led by Sandi Bloem, or Clay Larkin or Frank Henderson. Furthermore, I propose that in response to the present day crisis of school shootings, this militia build stockades around every school in the county, manned by musket-carrying patriot volunteers … or maybe we should also give them atomic bombs and missiles. Passes will be required to traverse from one part of the county to another and we can print our own wampum.

Also, this militia can only act on votes by landed gentry, since women weren’t allowed to vote by our all-knowing and all-wise founding fathers. Further, the black people will have to live in slave quarters, as did our black brethren of the days of our founding fathers. (To quote current father Idaho legislator Regan’s wife, “Assault rifles are black and scary… like President Obama” CDA Press 1/27/2013.)

I don’t expect any financial remuneration for my idea to form a well-regulated militia in Kootenai County. The title of Honorary Colonel of militia will suffice.

Or, if my proposal for a well-regulated militia is not acceptable, how about if we just stop being afraid of each other and live in the 21st century?

GARY EDWARDS

Hon. Colonel
