Dandy diapers

| December 25, 2013 8:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - During the holiday season, packages of diapers mysteriously appear stacked on unused counter spaces or stashed in various corners of the Lewis-Clark State College Coeur d'Alene office.

The Student Organization of Social Workers (SOSW) solicits the diapers from local businesses and generous individuals. They house the donations at the LCSC-CDA office. Then the group donates the diapers to local food banks. SOSW collected 2,500 diapers this year during their fourth annual diaper drive.

SOSW is a behind-the-scenes group with a tradition of giving back to the community. Each December for the last four years, they have given something that is always in high demand.

Food banks generally do not receive large donations of diapers, meaning a parent will typically receive only a few diapers during a trip to the food bank.

"While our social work student group highlights the need for diapers in food banks once a year, we want to impress upon our generous community that the need remains throughout the year," said Dr. Chris Ahlman, coordinator of the LCSC-Cd'A Social Work Program.
