Richard 'Dick' Charles Griffin, 83

| August 19, 2013 2:32 PM

Richard “Dick” Charles Griffin, 83, passed away Aug. 13, 2013. He is at home with his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ. Today, he celebrates with previously deceased, beloved family, old friends and new.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me. There is more than enough room in My Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with Me where I am.” John 14:1-3 (NLT)

Dick was born in East Moline, Ill., on Aug. 31, 1929, to Clarence and Edna Griffin. He was very active in sports (football, golden gloves champion), an avid golfer and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Leni (Tornquist) Griffin (Sandpoint) and had two wonderful children, Luke and Julie. He worked and was educated in San Francisco, Calif.

Dick is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Griffin; and his children: son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Cyndy Griffin of Coeur d’Alene, grandchildren, Kelsey, Sara and Derek; and his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Steve Furin of Sagle, and grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Jakob.

After Christ, family was all important to Dick. The entire family (seven adults) agreed to move from Southern California to Coeur d’Alene in early 1992, and have maintained their close family bond (a Mid-Western tradition) since that time.

Dick’s gypsy nature kept him on the move most his adult life. He loved to build homes, and also buying them, fixing them up, selling them, and then moving the family onto the next new challenge. Luke was in six different primary schools in his first 6 years. And while Dick continued to look for new “home challenges,” he also found he loved tinkering with old boats or motor homes, fixing them up and selling them. He loved to help family and friends whenever he could. He always had at least one project in the fire!

A private gathering of family and close friends will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the home of Dick and Linda Griffin.
