ISSUES: Writer shares several

| August 17, 2013 9:00 PM

I have a few issues I would like to bring to public attention. I have thought about these for awhile and think now is the time to speak up.

The first has to do with people with disabilities. Too many times I have seen the handicap parking spots abused and wonder why. Why would someone who can walk and shop in big box stores and not have any problems doing so need a special parking spot? If you can accomplish that why can’t you walk another few spaces to your car? Many times my husband, who has COPD, has to park in left field in order to get my wheelchair out of our car because there are no empty spaces. The wheelchair accessible spaces are for wheelchairs! If you don’t use a wheelchair, leave the space for someone who does.

Next is the handicapped bathroom. Can’t tell you how many times I have had to wait on someone who did not need the stall or used it to change clothes (as in store workers). Or had to expose myself to everyone using a smaller stall because I could not get my chair in and someone was using the wheelchair one unnecessarily. So please save those for us who need them!

Another topic is merging on to the freeway. The car coming onto the freeway is the one “merging,” not the cars already on there. Merging is coming together in a safe fashion, slowly. We will move over for you if it is safe to do so. Otherwise you need to make the safe “merge.” Ninety percent of Idaho drivers know this and practice this but the 10 percent of you who ignore this make it unsafe for the rest of us.

My last complaint is to The Press. You asked for readers to submit stories, poems and etc. to highlight some of our talent. So why, since I submitted a poem written to me by my grandson last May, has there been only one publishing of writers’ corner? I was told it was space available only. Really! You asked us so give us space!
