Man sentenced for mailing fake cash

BOISE (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a Colorado man to 51 months in prison for sending counterfeit bills and drugs through the mail into Idaho.

The judge also ordered 50-year-old Jeffrey Barfield of Thornton, Colo., to pay more than $13,000 in restitution for his crimes.

Barfield was arrested in June 2012 for passing counterfeit bills at garage sales in Northglenn, Colo., and months later reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors for mail fraud, dealing in counterfeit currency and distributing oxycodone.

Shortly after being released from a Colorado prison, investigators say Barfield manufactured and sold $10,200 in fake bills and passed some of that money in Denver-area stores.

He was arrested after an Idaho person got a package of fake bills and oxycodone pills and reported the contraband to police.
