Marjorie Davis, 89

| April 22, 2013 3:01 PM

Marjorie Davis passed away peacefully on March 8, 2013, at Hospice House in Hayden. Marjorie was born to Luther and Edna Davis on May 24, 1923, in Somerville, Mass. She spent her childhood in Scituate and Medford, Mass., where she graduated from high school and continued on to Secretarial school in the Boston area.

In 1947 Marjorie went to work for the United States War Department in Germany and spent most of the next decade living and working in Europe. During that time she traveled throughout Europe and Africa and made many great friends along the way. In the late 1950s Marjorie returned to the Boston area where she worked as an editorial assistant to several Pulitzer Prize winning and bestselling authors. In the late 1960s Marjorie moved to California to be closer to her sister. She spent the next two decades doing editorial and public relations work in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles.

Marjorie was an extremely creative person and a very talented artist. When she wasn’t working or traveling she was busy painting or writing. Marjorie was also an avid dog lover. She had two wonderful dogs during her adult life, Freddie and later, George.

In 2010, Marjorie moved to Coeur d’Alene to be closer to her sister, Nancy Bell and niece, Pam Bell Rowland. While in Idaho, Marjorie lived at Legends Park Assisted Living. Marjorie made many wonderful friends with the other residents and staff at Legends.

Marjorie lived a full and exciting life. She loved to talk about her travels and the many interesting people she encountered during her lifetime. She accepted aging gracefully and never lost her positive outlook or her sharp sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.

Marjorie is survived by her sister, Nancy Bell of Coeur d’Alene; her brother, John Davis of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; five nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

At Marjorie’s request, there will not be a formal service. She did ask that we celebrate what would have been her 90th birthday on May 24, 2013, with cake and champagne.

Marjorie’s family would like to express their gratitude to the residents and staff at Legends for their kindness toward Marjorie. We would also like to thank her volunteer visitor, Terry Crawford, who became Marjorie’s wonderful friend. We are also deeply grateful to everyone at On Site for Seniors and Hospice House for their compassionate and loving care of Marjorie.
